Downend C.C 1ST Team are members of the West of England Premier League 1. Having a mixed season last year with a poor run of form at the end of the season saw us finishing 8th. We are looking to massively improve this coming season and aim for a top 4 finish.

Matt is the DCC X captain, a dynamic batsman and impactful bowler. He can stabilise the middle order when required, as well as taking the attack to the opposition. When bowling he has the ability to ‘wobble’ it in both directions.
Jacko is readying himself for retirement and spends most of his spare time on the golf course. He’s also a big fan of a fancy dress, often seen adorning a dress, skirt, wig and all sorts of other questionable uniforms (not on the golf course, however).
Phil is the elder statesmen within the first team. With all his experience he has become a very accurate and economical pace bowler and a power hitting (slogging) middle order batsman. He has the ability to hit the ball miles and in most cases doesn’t believe in playing a defensive shot.
Phil has threatened to retire from cricket year on year for the past five but we don’t let him as he’s constantly required to fix and build things around the club.
Andy is an experienced leg spin bowler and middle order batsman. He has the ability to really spin the ball and can often change a game when bowling. He also likes to climb into an attack when the time is right and can whack it to all parts.
In-between his work as a double for Patrick Stewart, Vin Diesel, Bruce Willis, Sinéad O’Connor and any other bald person you can think of, Macca enjoys football and golf and believes that if you hit it hard enough it only takes one shot.
Ben is an attacking yet technical and very classy batsman. He often has the audacity to invent new shots, some of which can be very effective, others… not so much! He’s also a top level fielder and a handy bowler.
Fordy loves a Starburst, “Valaraki” and Bayern Munich! He can often be seen sat on a lawn mower, preparing football pitches at Bristol Rovers. He is also the recipient of the most nicknames in the club… Cheers, Shirley.
Ian is a very classy middle order batsman and occasional bowler. Liverpool-born Ian arrived at Downend five years ago and has been a valuable member of the team when he has been available for selection. Ian is a regular for Gloucestershire, impressing with both the bat and when in the field.
After a few beers, or if he’s particularly excited, Ian’s accent becomes very strong leaving people to question if English is in fact his first language.
Callum is a very promising young cricketer. He played representative cricket for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and grade cricket in Australia. He’s a dynamic attacking batsman and a very handy fielder with an on-field persona that seems to be completely un-fazed by any situation.
Loudy runs Red Dot Cricket but loves all sports and also plays football and golf. It’s lucky he is so active, as if eating was a sport he’d probably win at that too!
Callum is a promising young cricketer who currently plays representative cricket for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. Callum is a tall, fast bowler who tends to get the most out of the wicket. With his pace he gets good bounce and carry and often hurries a batsman.
Greggs has taken a large number of wickets over the last few seasons and has even managed a few 100s, unfortunately they have been off his bowling!
